Robert McArthur photography is owned and operated by Dr Robert McArthur. Robert's interest in photography started in 1987, 22+ years ago, on an overseas trip. His then mostly manual Nikon FE2 camera stayed with him until it, the lenses and two medium format systems were stolen in the later 1990's. He made the decision then to convert to digital when the best cameras were 1280x960 pixels and came with a 4MB card. He hasn't missed the darkroom since.

Robert specialises in portrait photography and events. His particular focus in family portrait is to situate the people in their environment, taking images in homes, workshops and local parks and playing areas. Natural light is preferred over harsh flash. The quick thinking required and unpredictability of events like theatre, horse jumping and sled dog racing also suit his character and style which have been honed over the years trying to take pictures of his daughter.

Robert has a Masters and PhD degrees in IT. He has lectured at university and conducted a variety of public courses. He is very proficient in Adobe Photoshop and other digital processing systems. Currently Adobe Lightroom is preferred to process RAW images into JPEGs, IMatch for Digital Asset Management (DAM), and a variety of other tools such as Irfanview, Photomatix, PicturesToExe and PTAssembler.

Not only taking pictures, Robert conducts classes in photography and digital manipulation and management. He is particularly adept at teaching, making the concepts and ideas available to those ready to learn. He is available for one-on-one bookings.
